Our Lady of the Holy Rosary
Owned by Pope Saint John XXIII Parish
In 1891, Father William Eversmann, O.S.B. was sent to Tacoma from the Benedictine Monastery of St. John, Colleville, MN. to begin Holy Rosary Parish. He was soon joined by Sisters of St. Benedict from St. Joseph, MN to staff the first parochial school in Tacoma.
An architectural wonder, Holy Rosary towers over downtown as Tacoma’s crown jewel.
In 2020, Holy Rosary parish was suppressed, with the lands and assets going to Pope Saint John XXIII parish. There is a grassroots effort to save the church from demolition, perhaps returning it service as a shrine.
