The first Catholic church in the valley was built in Orting in 1889. One year later in 1890, All Saints Parish was established in Puyallup. Catholics who lived in Sumner traveled by train, wagon or on foot to attend Mass in Puyallup. In 1920 several families petitioned Bshop O’Dea tor a parish of their own and St. Andrew the Apostle began as a mission parish of All Saints. The first Mass was celebrated in the new parish on April 19, 1921. A t the time of Its founding, the parish included about twenty families or 100 parishioners. In 1925, Saint Andrew gained its first resident priest.

The parish hall was built in 1952, and the church was enlarged in the following year.

By 1989, Saint Andrew celebrated four English Masses each weekend and a Spanish Mass every other weekend. The parish had outgrown all of its facilities. Ground was broken for a new church on July 6, 1998. The current church building was dedicated on August 29, 1999 by Archbishop Brunett.
